At the conception stage, it is commonly accepted that an innovation needs a business design, which precises notably key elements of the business model. However, the literature has, to our knowledge, not presented any method for building an optimal business design given one or several objectives. This conceptual article explores the introduction of a step of Impact modelisation to guide the construction of the best suited business design for the innovation, notably its business model. We define the Impact of an innovation as the difference its use makes for its users. The Impact Model then would allow for the precision of the business design choices that maximize the impact, thus the potential for value creation, with a broad scope for the notion of value. As such, we believe this approach opens the way for the implementation of innovations optimized socially, sustainably and profitably.
