This paper explores the role and place of Business Ethics Education in a university business schools. We follow a theoretical framework built on the work of Marcel Gauchet. Thereby, we are able to trace the historical roots of universities and business schools, which enabled us to find that there might be a need for Business Ethics Education although it may not have been a question in the past. There is an inherent need to re-visit the origin of the business school mission and be aware that the necessity for ethics education in business is a derivative of the secularisation and ambiguous role of the modern university. This paper takes the mission of universities back to their philosophical roots where the link between ethics education in business schools and the changing role of universities is exposed.
