Journal of Management Education ASSESSMENT IN MANAGEMENT EDUCATION - du 01 au 01 Juillet 2012

ASSESSMENT IN MANAGEMENT EDUCATION Sponsor: Journal of Management Education Description: For this special issue, we seek manuscripts that explore specific assessment approaches, methods, and ideas as well as manuscripts that help us think critically about assessment. The following ideas are potential areas that could be explored in the special issue: • What types of assessments are possible and how can we tell if they are effective? • How can the literature on creativity help us develop innovative approaches to assessment? • How do we create student learning outcomes that can be assessed? • Do students learn what we intend they learn? Do students also learn what we did not intend? What if what they are learning is wrong? How do we assess deeper or subtler learning that is beyond or not related to course objectives? • What are the potential unintended consequences of focusing on easily assessed learning outcomes? • What are the possible unintended consequences of an assessment orientation? We see examples of “assessment gone bad” in the news. How do we return the focus to learning? • How do we assess student learning in experience-based courses such as study abroad, service-learning, and internships and co-ops? • How can we develop assessment plans that accommodate the AACSB requirement for assurance of learning, regional accreditation requirements, and also help us accomplish our own teaching and learning goals? • How do we approach assessment in a way that is truly helpful to multiple constituents? How do we sell the value of assessment to faculty and then help them develop the skills necessary to be effective? • How do we use the scholarship of teaching to share what works and what we have learned about assessment? • What is the status of assessment in management education? Are we as management educators focusing on what is important when conducting assessments?
